Memorial Garden

Our Memorial Garden is a peaceful space at the heart of our Parish — a place to pause, reflect, and remember. It stands as a reminder of the people and stories that shaped our community, and it continues to be a gathering point for shared remembrance.

The Cenotaph

At the centre of the garden stands the Cenotaph, bearing the names of the fallen from Brampton Parish. Each name represents a life lived, a family changed, and a sacrifice made. It is a place where generations come to honour those who served and to ensure their memory lives on.

The Turning Wheel

The Turning Wheel, a relic from Cortonwood Pit, is a tribute to the men who worked in the local coal industry for so many years. Their labour powered homes and industries across the country, and the wheel stands as a symbol of their dedication, resilience, and the heritage that shaped our community.

Remembrance Sunday

Every year, we gather at the Cenotaph for our Remembrance Sunday service. The morning includes readings, reflection, and a moment of shared silence. After the service, everyone in the Parish is warmly invited to a reception — a chance to come together, share memories, and honour loved ones.

Holly Bush Park

A much‑loved community space for our youngest residents

Holly Bush Park is a cherished part of our village, sitting right beside the Parish Hall and offering a safe, joyful place for young children to play, explore, and make memories. Since receiving £40,000 of investment in 2016, the park has gone from strength to strength and is now a firm favourite with local families.

A Park Designed for Children

Our improvements introduced a wonderful range of play equipment specially chosen for toddlers and young children. From imaginative play to active climbing, there’s something to delight every little visitor.

We also added extra seating so parents and carers can relax comfortably while the children play to their hearts’ content.

To help keep everyone safe, the park features soft‑impact flooring, reducing the risk of injury when the inevitable bumps and tumbles happen during play.

Safe, Secure and Welcoming

Holly Bush Park is fully fenced and gated, giving peace of mind to parents of small children.

  • Opening hours: 9am daily
  • Closing time: Locked after dusk

The park is also monitored by CCTV surveillance, helping to prevent crime and anti‑social behaviour and ensuring the space remains safe and enjoyable for all.

A Community Library for Little Readers

We’re proud to offer a free Children’s Library Box within the park. Children are encouraged to take a book, enjoy it, and return it when they’re done. Families with spare or outgrown books are warmly invited to donate them, helping us keep the library stocked and vibrant.

A Home for Community Events

Holly Bush Park is the beloved venue for our Annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic, a highlight of the year for many local families. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the fun simply moves indoors to the Main Hall — teddy bears included.

Bierlow Park

Bierlow Park – Community Facilities and Future Improvements

Bierlow Park is a well‑loved green space located alongside Knoll Beck, bordered by Wath Road, Pontefract Road, and Moorbridge Crescent. The park offers a range of free facilities for children, young people, and families to enjoy throughout the year.

BMX Track

Bierlow Park is home to a popular BMX Track, providing a fantastic space for riders of all ages and abilities.

  • A smaller learner track allows young children to try the sport safely.
  • A larger, more challenging track is ideal for older children looking to build confidence, skills, and fitness.

Both tracks are great fun and encourage active, outdoor play.

Multi Use Games Area (MUGA)

Next to the BMX Track is the Multi Use Games Area, an enclosed pitch suitable for a variety of sports, including:

  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Basketball

The MUGA is perfect for informal games, practice sessions, and active recreation.

Children’s Play Area

The park also features a dedicated children’s play area, equipped with:

  • A slide
  • Climbing frame
  • Toddler swings

This space provides a safe and enjoyable environment for younger children.

Planned Improvements

Brampton Bierlow Parish Council is currently exploring options to enhance the park, with a particular focus on upgrading the children’s play area to better meet the needs of local families.

Free for Everyone

All facilities at Bierlow Park are free of charge, ensuring the park remains accessible and welcoming for the whole community.
